October Series

Launched in 2020, FEED’s October Series celebrates the dark, magical prose & poetry which satiates and revives us during the harvest season. Those weird and otherworldly doses of brief stories transporting us to places strange & unsettling that transfix our attention to the underbrush where decay turns to enchantment.

We’re looking for short poetry, fiction, and nonfiction that bewitches and captivates readers—writing that sends shivers down our spines or takes us to another realm, finds unexpected beauty in shadowed lands and healing in the macabre. Genuine, brief work delighting in all the spooky season has to offer.

Check out the stellar poetry & prose in last year’s October Series in Issues 1.24, 1.25, 1.26, 1.27, & 1.28.

Submissions for the October Series open each year on September 1 and close October 15. All submissions should be sent via email to subs.feedmag@gmail.com. Please include “October Issue” in the subject line. For more information regarding submission, see our general submission requirements here.

  • NOTE: We do not seek horror submissions. Submissions containing overt gore, graphic terror, and gratuitous violence will not be considered for publication.
